Michelle D Farrell in the Author behind the Melody Green series, below is more about Book 1.
‘Melody is a firecracker, yet sweet as candy. She has a best friend of many years named Denzel who is Melody’s voice of reason. Even though Melody is very tenacious, he always guides her. Melody witnessed a man being hit by a car and later finds out that he was actually running away from a murder scene. Michael Milhouse meets Melody and finds out the hard way that if something doesn’t feel right to her, she will continue until everything makes sense. Melody has a gut feeling that the death of the man she saw running, the murders of a young magazine editor and Michael’s daughter are tied…but how? Merciful Shock is book one of a series of three.’
Interview
Q1. What was your inspiration and drive behind your latest book?
My latest book is part two of a series. The series came to me one evening simply by sitting on my porch observing my street as the neighborhood moms called their children in for the evening and a man, doing his nightly run, came jogging past my house. That is how Melody Green: Merciful Shock was born…just by watching my neighborhood wind down for the night.
Q2. What is your writing kryptonite?
I have had the opposite of Writer’s Block hit me. I call it “Writer’s Tidal Wave”. To be honest, Writer’s Tidal Wave is just as difficult as Writer’s Block in a strange way. It takes me a while to get everything written down, sorted and fit together smoothly.
Q3. If you could tell your younger self anything, what would it be?
I would hug my younger self and tell her to not give up. To keep pushing and never stop writing just because someone said something negative about writing in general.
Q4. Tell us about an early experience where you learned that words have power.
By watching my teachers teach. I remember observing my whole first grade class staring at my first grade teacher in front of the class teaching and her reading mesmerized us all. Just seeing that her words were able to hold and grip a seven year old and hold the attention is pretty powerful to me!
Q5. What does success mean to you?
Success to me is when a person has had a long day at work or raising kiddos and everything has calmed for the day, they reach over to their bookshelf or night stand and pick up their reading of one of the books that I had written. Success also means talking to a young girl or boy who loves to write and you show them your book and tell them that you have written stories since you were their age and you see their face light up and you get wind that the child has written a full story.
Q6. Tell us what we should look out for from you in the future.
I am currently in the beginning stages of book three of the Melody Green Series. I plan on sticking with the Mystery/Thriller and Suspense genre as well as branching one of my characters on her own in her own Young Adult series.
